Dell launches two new hybrid laptops, the Latitude 5289 and the Latitude 7285: Specs, pricing and release details
Dell has launched two new 12-inch hybrid laptops, the Latitude 5289 and the Latitude 7285. The latest 2-in-1 systems are optimised for “PC first, tablet second” portable and flexible performance, according to the Texas-based computer giant. Both machines are available in various configurations.
The Latitude 5289 features a 360-degree hinge that permits working flexibility. It can effortlessly shift between laptop, tablet, stand and tent modes. The device also has the largest battery among convertibles, and can last up to 17 hours.
The hybrid laptop houses a 128 GB M.2 SATA Class 20 SSD and up to an Intel Core i7-7600U dual core 3.9 GHz vPro processor with 16 GB memory. Some of the ports and slots included are a couple of DisplayPorts and a duo of USB 3.0 openings with PowerShare. The notebook also equips an ISO-compliant backlit keyboard and a Wacom-enabled active pen.
The latest Latitude 7000 series laptop, meanwhile, boasts of a high-end tablet and a detachable keyboard design, which should make it an ideal PC for on-the-go professionals that need lightweight hardware. The 1.5-pound (0.68-kilogram) hybrid is also the world’s first 2-in-1 notebook with wireless charging capabilities. That feature, however, needs additional US$580 (AU$760) worth of accessories for it to be fully taken advantage by users.
“Integrating WiTricity’s magnetic resonance wireless charging technology, the device is built to transform any workspace into a clutter-free environment,” according to Dell. “When combined with a charging mat and WiGig wireless dock (sold separately), users can quickly remove the 2-in-1 from the mat without the need to unplug any cables and easily return it to the mat to automatically recharge and connect to additional wireless peripherals such as a display, wireless keyboard and mouse.”
The Latitude 7285 utilises up to 256 GB of M.2 PCIe NVMe Class 35 SSD and up to an Intel Core i7-7Y75 dual core 3.6 GHz vPro processor. Connectivity options are modest, including two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 ports, one USIM card slot and a USB 3.0 memory card reader. Both PCs come with a host of security features, including ControlVault (FIPS 140-2 Level 3) for advanced authentication and TPM 2.0 (FIPS 140-2 Level 2).
The 12.5-inch Dell Latitude 5289 is now available starting at US$899.99 (AU$1,179.99) while the 12.3-inch Dell Latitude 7285 base model carries a US$1,199.99 (AU$1,569.99) starting price.
