Dell working on 10.8 inch Windows 8.1: Dell 10.8 Challenges Google Nexus 10 and Asus Pad FHD 10
Dell will be holding a New York event this coming Oct. According to reports, the event will likely be about the release of their 10.8inch Windows 8.1 tablet. The expected new line of slates will include an 8-inch model powered by Intel Atom Bay Trail processor. As mentioned, it seems Dell does not want just 8-inch slates. Recent leaks support the idea that the company could be working on larger models with releases just around the corner.
According to reports, the Dell Venue 11 and Dell Venue 11 Pro will both feature 10.8 inch full HD displays. Several sources expect the slates to have Windows RT software and Qualcomm processor. The Dell Venue 11 Pro will be running with an Intel chip and Windows 8.1.
Dell has yet to make an official announcement about these products so the market will have to wait.
Both models are expected to offer 10 hours of battery life. Other specs include 1920 x 1080 pixel displays including 2 GB RAM. However, the Dell Venue 11 Pro will also come with a 64 GB solid state drive plus optional 4G LTE support.
The entry-level model, on the other hand, will only provide 32 GB of storage and WiFi connectivity.
As mentioned, the Dell Venue 11 Pro will reportedly run on Intel Atom Z3770 quad-core processor. It will also feature Windows 8.1 32-bit software. According to report from TabTech, the device may also offer a user-replaceable battery. Optional components include a keyboard dock and desktop dock. The keyboard dock will come with an extra battery lasting up to 19 hours.
Reports say the Pro model will be sold starting at $399. There are no confirmations yet about how much the Qualcomm-powered slate will be. It is safe to assume that it will cost less as with other similar products on the market.
If these all push through then Dell is not bailing out in Windows RT at all. News from last week indicated that Dell was already stopping its efforts in relation to the Windows RT tablet. Windows RT 8.1 appears similar to Windows 8.1 although it specifically caters to ARM-based processors. Microsoft has also implemented restrictions like banning apps not coming from the Windows Store.
Dell will also be competing with other 10-inch tablet makers like Asus and Google.
