Dell XPS12, Sony Vaio Pro 13, Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus: The Best Upcoming Haswell Inside Laptops [Part I] [Photos]
Intel unveiled their fourth generational Core processors named Haswell last June. Despite the introduction of the chipset a few months ago, Haswell ultrabooks are only beginning to hit stores this quarter. For those looking for the right ultrabook or Haswell-powered device, a rundown of the upcoming Haswell products should be helpful.
Picking the right ultrabook takes more than just choosing the device first on the racks or even with longer battery life. Functionality, hardware and software should also be part of the evaluation. Take a look at the six best Haswell laptops to hit the market.
Sony Vaio Pro 13
Sony has always been known for creating exceptional products in terms of hardware, design and software. The company has been in the forefront of many innovative technologies and just recently, their Son Vaio Pro 13 is vying to be the lightest and one of the most powerful ultrabooks around. The Haswell-powered Vaio is a beauty to behold. The case is made from carbon fiber and the device only weighs 2.4lbs.
Sony Vaio Pro 13 follows the footsteps of MacBook Air and goes beyond it. The front tapers make it look thinner. According to reports, the Vaio Pro 13 is in fact almost lighter than the MacBook Air. The 13.3-inch display offers 1920 x 1080 display plus touch built in. Unfortunately, it is not as flexible as other ultrabooks offering an additional tablet orientation. Sony has incorporated their Sony Bravia technology assuring excellent colors and depth of screen.
According to reviews and reports, the Vaio Pro 13 has one of the best 1080 laptop screens around. The ultrabook is an ideal choice in terms of design, weight, interface and availability. Sony just launched the product and it is available starting at $1249.
Dell XPS12
Dell's latest line of ultrabook started shipping last July 29. Vying to earn a spot in the market, the ultrabook offers several features making it distinctive from other competitors. The first of these is the rotating screen. Lenovo previously caught the market's attention with Yoga that bends and flexes. Dell XPS12 created a flip-hinge that will make consumers take a second look at it.
Users only need to unlatch the screen, flip it and then close the lid again. The ultrabook transforms instantly into a Windows 8 tablet. Despite the bulky display for a tablet, the screen features Gorilla Glass. It also has 10-point multitouch support. Display is 12.5 inches and offers 1920 x 1080 LCD resolutions. The laptop is available starting at $1199.
Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus
Samsung's Series 9 is considered as one of the best ultrabooks in 2012. This time, the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus paves the way for another shot at the top spot. The 13.3-inch ultrabook sports a sleek design though it is the screen which makes it stand out from the rest. It does not flip and bend, rather, it offers a crazy resolution that can rival Apple's MacBook Pro Retina. The newest ATIV Book 9 Plus offers better resolution of pixels-per-inch support (PPI) compared to the Chromebook. For people who want to save a few dollars, they can opt for the 1920 x 1080 resolution panel variant. The whole frame measures 0.53 inches and it weighs 3lbs. While it is bulkier or heavier than most competitors, the difference does not account for much.
Other specs include Core I7 and Core i5 Haswell. The chipset places the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus along the same standard or level of quality as the Sony Vaio Pro. It is a tough and competitive market and there are more Haswell laptops in the works and coming soon to join.
