Did Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Shipment Really Hit 20 Million Units in June?
Were the analysts wrong in downgrading sales forecast for South Korean tech giant Samsung?
That would be the question in the mind of techies because of the release of a report on Wednesday by Yonhap News that Samsung shipped about 20 million units of its flagship Galaxy S4 by the end of June.
Samsung, however, has not confirmed the report, although official figures said the company shipped 10 million units of the S4 in May, meaning in a matter of 30 days, the company shipped 10 more million units.
If the report is accurate, the S4 would then be selling 1.7 times faster than the previous flagship, the S3, which took 100 days to reach the 20 million mark. Samsung started the shipment of the S4 in April 2013.
Previous reports indicated that the S4 was not selling as fast as anticipated because many consumers find the flagship substantially not different from the S3, causing shoppers to hold off purchasing the smartphone. As a result of the slower sales, analysts downgraded their forecast of S4 shipments for 2013 to 80 million units.
Samsung enthusiast would know if the device indeed is its bestselling to date when the firm holds its earnings call later this week.
The S4 features a 5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and is powered by a 1.6GHz Exynos octa-core processor in some countries and a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor in other nations. It has 2GB of RAM and a PowerVR SGX544MP3 triple-core GPU, 13-megapixel reat shooter and 2-megapixel front camera.
