Even from his grave, deceased Apple co-founder Steve Jobs appears to continue exerting influence in the tech giant despite Tim Cook now serving as the chief executive of the California-based company.

Reports from the San Francisco Examiner quoted George Gascon, the city's district attorney, as saying that Mr Jobs finalised two designs for two more unreleased versions of the iPhones, believed to be the upcoming iPhone 5s and iPhone 6.

Besides meeting Mr Jobs, Mr Gascon also met with Michael Foulkes, Apple's head of government liaison to discuss the introduction of kill-switch technology on forthcoming gadgets of Apple to cut the rate of mobile device theft in San Francisco.

One more basis of the belief that Mr Jobs, who died of pancreatic cancer in October 2011, is the long period it takes from the design and development phase to the supply chain which creates the possibility that the rumoured iPhone 5S was designed by Mr Jobs at least two years ago.

Horace Dediu, an Apple analyst and former manager at Nokia, confirmed the two-year time line of mobile phone production which means units being designed now will likely be shipped only by about 2016.

However, despite the meeting with the two Apple officials, Mr Gascon was reportedly disappointed with what transpired because the tech firm appeared then not ready to lead an industry initiative to make stealing smartphones less profitable for petty criminals.

Among the speculated features of the iPhone 5S are support for contact-less technology, A7 quad-core chip processor and Retina display, while the iPhone 6 is rumoured to come in 6 to 8 colours, run by a faster processor, have improved optics and a larger screen.

The iPhone 5S is believe to be a low-cost iPhone in Apple's bid to gain a larger share of the smartphone market now dominated by rival Samsung, and reportedly will be unboxed on June 20, 2013 and go on sale by July. The main targets of the iPhone 5S are India and China, which could explain why Apple CEO Tim Cook apologised to Chinese consumers and vowed changes to the company's warranty policy.

The iPhone 6 is speculated to be launched in October.
