Djokovic, Federer And Nadal Uninvited To Andy Murray’s April 11 Wedding
New World No. 3 Andy Murray is set to tie the knot with his long-time girlfriend Kim Sears in less than a week. Murray reportedly wants his wedding to be a low-profile and family-oriented matrimonial ceremony, which is why there aren’t any tennis stars or celebrities invited to his April 11 wedding.
Neither Roger Federer nor close pal Rafael Nadal will be in attendance to Murray’s wedding, The Telegraph reported. Even Novak Djokovic revealed that he wasn’t invited to witness Murray’s exchange of vows with Sears, which will be held at the Dunblane Cathedral on April 11.
Building a wedding guest list is one of the most difficult things involved in wedding planning, but Murray said that they didn’t really have a tough time keeping track of their guests. He added that they didn’t have any celebrity acquaintances, which is why the wedding will be more of a family affair.
“Everyone who we’re close to, people we’ve spent a lot of time with in the past but also people we see ourselves spending time with in the future,” Murray said. “That’s who we came up with the names; pretty much everything is done now and under control, I’m sure a few things will come up next week but it’s pretty much sorted.”
The report said that some of the invited guests include retired English professional tennis player Tim Henman, Dutch tennis player Jean-Julien Rojer, his Davis cup teammates James Ward, Jamie Delgado and Kyle Edmund, and his former assistant coach Dani Vallverdu. Murray and Sears had flown back to UK to start their preparations for the wedding.
Murray said that he wasn’t really “over-involved” with the wedding preparations. He revealed that it was Sears who was more in control of the wedding planning. However, Murray said that he still tried to help out his fiancée when she asked for some assistance. In fact, he was the one who did all the food and cake testing, which he said he enjoyed a lot.
"It’s a big day for Kim. Pretty much everything is taken care of now,” Murray chimed in. “She seems fairly relaxed but as we get closer that might change.”
As for their honeymoon, it’ll have to wait until the 2015 tennis season is over. Murray originally had plans of flying to Monte Carlo to play his next tournament, but after his strong performance in Miami, the British tennis star is considering a small break. He said he plans to fly to Barcelona on April 15 or 16 to train.
Murray last played at the Miami Open, where he reached the finals before falling to defending champion Djokovic 7-6 4-6 6-0. Murray will play next at the BMW Open presented by FWU AG in Munich, Germany from April 27 to May 3. Previous winners of the BMW Open, also known as Bavarian International Tennis Championships, were Tomas Berdych (2009), Federer (2003), Mark Philippousis (1997) and Ivan Lendl (1993).
