'Doctor Strange' Photo Teases 'Avengers: Infinity War' Connection
“Doctor Strange” director Scott Derrickson has been taking to social media to tease some details on his plans for the film. Cinema Blend recently noticed one of the director’s Twitter post, which reportedly hints of “Doctor Strange” having a connection to “Avengers: Infinity War.”
Scott Derrickson shared a photo taken from the 1974 “Doctor Strange” comic book entitled “Doctor Strange Meets…Death!” It was his caption that intrigued users since the director practically confirmed that Death will be in the film. “As will we all…,” he added along with the image.
According to Cinema Blend writer Nick Romano, the director's tweet somehow revealed that fans will be seeing the "personification of Death” in “Doctor Strange.” The presence of mistress Death in the film supposedly hinted its connection to “Avengers: Infinity War.”
In the Marvel comics Death is an entity who appeared to Thanos as a hooded woman. Death is perceived as the sole recipient of Thanos’ affections. All the destruction on Earth and Thanos’ mission of collecting all the Infinity Gems are believed to be his way of pleasing or courting Death. Thus, having the entity’s personification in “Doctor Strange” supposedly somehow links the film to the two-part “Avengers: Infinity War,” where the Mad Titan will next appear.
The 1974 “Doctor Strange Meets…Death!” is reportedly the fourth issue of Volume 2 in the “Doctor Strange” comic book series. It tells the story of the Sorcerer Supreme’s confrontation with Death after he enters its domain. Doctor Strange defeats Death after he merges with the spirit of Eternity. “He's then approached by his master, The Ancient One, who reveals this to be part of his trials to become the Sorcerer Supreme and that, since he has defeated Death, he can longer age,” Romano revealed.
Whether Death will indeed appear in “Doctor Strange” remains uncertain though. According to Screencrush, Scott Derrickson could just be having fun with the photo as he has been sharing some of his favourite “Doctor Strange” art on his Twitter page as of late. The director could just be “goofing around” as what the site claimed. Regardless, fans will know for certain when the movie comes out on Nov 4, 2016.
