‘Doctor Strange' photos reveal the Sorcerer Supreme's Sanctum Sanctorum

The concept art photos for the Sorcerer Supreme’s Sanctum Sanctorum in “Doctor Strange” have been revealed. The images give fans a glimpse into what would be Benedict Cumberbatch’s sanctuary when he plays the titular role of a mystical superhero in 2016.

Marvel has released two concept art photos of the Sorcerer Supreme’s Sanctum Sanctorum. The first photo shows a vast living area. Off to the left corner is Doctor Strange’s famous red cape, known in the comics as his Cloak of Levitation, stored in a glass closet.

A few jars and some artifacts are also seen inside the room. What appears to be a mask is also stored in a glass cabinet seen on the right corner of the living area.

The second concept art photo released by Marvel of the Sorcerer Supreme’s Sanctum Sanctorum in “Doctor Strange” reveals a large circular emblem carved on the floor. The emblem is directly caught in the beam emitted from the glass window on the ceiling. Doctor Stephen Strange appears to be the figure standing in the room.

In the “Doctor Strange” comic book story, the Sorcerer Supreme’s Sanctum Sanctorum is located in the Greenwich Village of New York. According to Heroic Hollywood, it houses special artifacts that hold dangerous contents. So, Doctor Strange had his sanctuary protected with magic to ward off intruders.

It’s still unknown where movie director Scott Derrickson decided to shoot Doctor Strange’s sanctuary in the movie. However, back in March, he teased two locations of the Sorcerer Supreme’s Sanctum Sanctorum on Twitter.

He shared a photo of the phrase, “Something Strange Happened Here,” lit up in neon lights along a wall across a canal found in Venice, Italy. The same phrase is also found constructed on a building in Den Haag, Holland. It’s believed the director was subtly hinting the location of the Sorcerer Supreme’s Sanctum Sanctorum in “Doctor Strange” will either be in Holland or Italy.

“Doctor Strange” opens in US theatres on Nov. 4, 2016. Cumberbatch plays the titular role as the Sorcerer Supreme, along with Tilda Swinton, who will play the character of Doctor Strange’s master the Ancient One.
