Huawei, a Chinese tech company, is starting to gain its name in the smartphone business. Does its flagship Ascend P6 have what it takes to join the smartphone race?

Design And Chassis

With 132.7 mm x 65.5 mm x 6.2 mm dimension, the Ascend P6 is one of the slimmest smartphones in the market. It weights less at 120 grams. It is available in black, white and pink. The Ascend P6 is shiny, thin, glossy and beautiful to look at. But it lacks a distinctive character to easily differentiate it from other smartphones (like Lumia 1020 with its big round camera unit on its back or LG G2's weirdly placed volume buttons).

Screen And Display

The Ascend P6 sports a 4.7-inch screen, which is not bad for its size considering that it's smaller than HTC One with the same screen size and a little bit bigger than iPhone 5s with only 4-inch screen. It has a display of 720 x 1,280 pixels and 312 ppi, which is only a little lower than Lumia 1020 and iPhone 5s.

Performance

Huawei's flagship is powered by 1.5 GHz quad-core processor with an available 2 GB of RAM. You can expect an almost flawless run. Another feature for Ascend P6 is its OS Android v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) with a planned upgrade to KitKat Android v4.4. If you're into apps, there won't be much of a problem as Android offers 650,000 apps.

Camera

The camera is not as impressive as Lumia 1020's 41 MP or Xperia Z1's 20.7 MP. But it will suffice for casual shooting with an 8 MP camera unit. Autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, HDR, and face and smile detection are available features.

Price Range

With the specs above, the Ascend P6 is remarkably less pricy than the popular smartphones in the market. According to shopbot.com, the price range in Australia is from $370 to $479.95.

Ultimate Decree

For a cheap price of $370, the specs of Ascend P6 are definitely impressive. Huawei may not yet be at par with Apple, Samsung or Sony. But it's getting there.
