Dog Attacks In Sydney Left Four Injured
Two people in Sydney have gone through surgery on Sunday afternoon after being attacked by two dogs. The pair is now in the hospital and in stable condition, ABC Australia reports.
The 28-year-old man and 26-year-old woman from Church Street in Castlereagh were reportedly returning home and found two dogs attacking chickens and ducks in their coop, according to police reports. The woman went inside the coop, while the man went inside their home to look for restraints.
Upon hearing the woman scream, the man rushed outside to see the woman attacked by a dog. Police said that the dog was a Ridgeback crossbreed. The woman sustained injuries to her face and multiple bite wounds on her torso and arms.
When the man tried to free the woman, he was also attacked. He sustained a deep bite wound to his arm, as well as lacerations on his abdomen and hand. Eventually, the dogs fled the scene, as police reported.
One of the dogs was reportedly euthanised, while officers are still looking for the other dog. The owners of the dog could be charged with criminal offense.
In a separate report, a two-year-old boy was attacked by their family dog, a husky. The toddler went to get facial wound treatment at Westmead Children’s Hospital, on Sunday afternoon.
In another report from 9News Australia, a Staffordshire bull terrier attacked a grandfather who was walking his Fox terrier, named Gemma, in Cranebrook. The dog reportedly bit Gemma’s throat, and when 79-year-old Trevor Gearin came to the rescue, the Staffordshire bull terrier went after him and bit his arm and hand.
The dog’s owner told Gearin’s family that their children had left the gate open, allowing their dog to escape. This incident took place 24 hours after the attack in Castlereagh. Local resident in Castlegreagh Anthony Baus said that he already saw those two, big dogs roaming around in the area and terrorising chickens.
Despite witnesses, the council has not done anything to address the matter. "We've called the council and they've done nothing about it,” said Baus in an ABC report. Residents are concerned about the other dog missing as it could attack children in the area.
