Nigella Lawson Does Not Want to Be Called a Cocaine “Addict”

Nigella Lawson has been forced to be put on the stand and shed light to the reported drug use as implicated in an email sent to her by ex-husband, Charles Saatchi. The email was used as a court document for the fraud case now on trial against the celebrity couple's personal assistants - the Grillo sisters.

The top celebrity TV chef has been embroiled in the drug-use inquiry at the Isleworth Crown Court, West London. This is due to the statement made by Saatchi accusing Lawson of being high on drugs, resulting in her failure to monitor their Italian assistants.

“Of course now the Grillos will get off on the basis that you... were so off your heads on drugs that you allowed the sisters to spend whatever they liked,” stated Saatchi’s email, as noted in a separate report by IBTimes-AU citing a report by The Daily Telegraph Australia.

The Isleworth Crown Court had asked Nigella to answer drug-related questions during the trial. On her second day at the witness stand, Nigella admitted she indeed took drugs but emphasized that it was only for six times since she began in 1999. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Nigella said that the last time she took the drugs was in 2010.

"I have never been a drug addict, I have never been a habitual user. There were two times in my life when I used cocaine,” quoted Nigella was in an interview with Anthony Metzer QC, the legal counsel for the Elizabetta and Francesca Grillo, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

"One time was when my husband's cancer was terminal and he was introduced to it, thinking it would help, and I did on maybe six occasions join in with him. There was another time I took cocaine, in July of 2010 . . . A friend of mine offered me some cocaine and I took it. It completely spooked me . . . I didn't have a drug problem, I had a life problem, and I needed to deal with it and went to a therapist," continued Nigella.

The celebrity chef insisted that she was never a drug addict and had demanded that she should not be described as such. Otherwise, she challenged authorities that she too would have her day in court.

"I am not proud of the fact that I have taken drugs but that does not make me a drug addict," said Lawson, noted News.com.au.

"I really feel if you want to put me on trial, put me on trial. I don't feel it is right to have me here as a witness for the Crown and treat me like this,” stated Lawson to the Sydney Morning Herald.
