Donald Trump Jr assures ‘zero contact’ with father about business
Donald Trump Jr assures that he has “zero contact” with his father as the former takes charge of running their family business. He reportedly claimed he has had almost no contact with US President Donald Trump since he entered the White House as the leader of the free world.
“I basically have zero contact with him at this point,” the president’s oldest son told Republicans at a fundraiser in Dallas. The 39-year-old also praised his father for the speed of work being accomplished in the White House since he took office in January.
“I'm watching more take place in two months than I saw in two terms before,” he told the crowd according to NBC. The fundraiser event was reportedly attended by 1,000 Republicans on Saturday night.
Texas senator Ted Cruz was also in attendance. A photo of him and Trump Jr was posted on Facebook with the caption, “Nice pic of @sentedcruz and me at yesterday's Dallas County GOP Reagan Dinner. Good time for a good cause.”
In January, the president said his two sons, Donald Jr and Eric, will take in charge of the day-to-day business management of their family business. "While I am not mandated to do this under the law, I feel it is visually important, as President, to in no way have a conflict of interest with my various businesses," Trump tweeted. The current administration maintained that the president has done enough actions to remove himself from his businesses.
Walter Shaub, director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, said the president’s decision to step back from running his business is meaningless from a conflict-of-interest point of view. "The idea of setting up a trust to hold his operating businesses adds nothing to the equation. This is not a blind trust, it's not even close,” he said.
Trump’s oldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, has also reportedly stepped down from her business roles. However, White House adviser Kellyanne Conway was criticised by the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) for endorsing the first daughter’s merchandise.
Trump Jr. had expressed support for his father during the 2016 presidential campaign up to his transition. The Saturday event, the Reagan Day dinner in Dallas, marked the first time that he spoke about matters related to politics since the latest Inauguration Day. Based on his About Page on Facebook, Donald Jr oversees the Trump Organization's current and new property portfolio, including all aspects of real estate development from deal evaluation, analysis and pre-development planning to construction, branding, marketing, operations, sales and leasing.
