'Downton Abbey' Season 6 Update: Allen Leech And Matthew Goode To Star In Final Season
When the audience last saw Tom Branson on “Downton Abbey” Season 5, he was heading to America with his daughter Sybbie. It looks like someone convinced him to not board the ship, as the actor portraying the role, Allen Leech, is very much part of “Downton Abbey” Season 6 ensemble.
There was much speculation about whether Leech will appear on the final season of “Downton Abbey,” and a woman’s tweet was the first to confirm that the actor is returning to reprise his role. The woman and her terminally-ill daughter met the cast of the British period drama, including Leech. She informed via Twitter on June 12 that they had a “fab day” at Downton Abbey filming with Leech, Hugh Bonneville, Sophie Mcshera, Rob James-Collier and Lesley Nicol.
Later, Leech was seen at Brooklands Museum in Surrey, England on June 16. Zap2it has reported that he was filming 1920s-era scenes and was seen in period costumes. The museum was the site of the historic Brooklands race track circuit that shut down in 1939. [Check the photos here.]
Earlier in February, when asked about his return to “Downton Abbey,” Leech said, as quoted by RTE, “He's gone off to find himself, and find out exactly who he'll be. So whether he comes back in this season or next season or… we'll see. After the photos surfaced of him filming for the period drama, the actor took to Twitter to say, “Well cat, out and bag are three words that come to mind!”
Meanwhile, Express reported that Matthew Goode, who made a guest appearance as Henry Talbot in the Christmas special episode last season, was also spotted filming at the location. He was seen with Tom Cullen, who plays Lord Gillingham.
As previously reported, the cast members were seen last month filming the wedding of butler Carson (Jim Carter) and Ms Hughes (Phyllis Logan). The later accepted Mr Carson’s proposal in “Downton Abbey” Season 5 Christmas special episode. According to The Hollywood Reporter, there is likely to be more battles between Violet (Maggie Smith) and Isobel Crawley (Penelope Wilton). And Laura Carmichael’s character Lady Edith will be seen spending more time in London.
The final season of “Downton Abbey” is expected to premiere sometime this fall. Earlier this month, Bonneville told the press the production on Season 6 is set to wrap up in 11 weeks.
