‘Downton Abbey’ star Michelle Dockery mourns fiancé's death with his family in Ireland, prepares for his funeral Wednesday
“Downton Abbey” star Michelle Dockery is mourning the death of her fiancé John Dineen along with his family in his home in Ireland. She was devastated after his death. The 34-year-old PR professional reportedly passed away after losing a battle with a rare form of cancer in Marymount Hospital in Cork on Sunday. No further details have been divulged about his death.
A private funeral service will take place at St. James Catholic Church on Wednesday, a source told People. Dockery is believed to be in at the Dineen family home in Waterfall on the outskirts of Cork, Ireland. The actress, who plays Lady Mary Crawley in “Downton Abbey,” turned 34 on Tuesday and the same day she began preparing for her fiance's funeral with the Dineens, which is expected to be held Wednesday.
The actress was there by her fiancé’s bedside when he passed away on Sunday. Dockery's fiance was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. John who worked as senior consulting director in FTI Consulting in London was brought up in Waterfall, Cork and studied at UCC and then he completed his masters in 2005.
A friend of John said that he was a very private person and was smitten by Michelle. He added that their friends joked they must have also been drawn together because of their Irish connections. Meanwhile, in a statement, a Dockery family spokesperson had requested that they would grieve the death of their loved one in private, Hello reports.
Mirror UK has likened Michelle to her on-screen character Lady Mary, who lost her husband in a car crash in “Downton Abbey” Season 6.
Michelle started dating the financial PR in Sept. 2013 after being introduced by mutual friend Allen Leach, who played chauffeur Tom Branson in the ITV show. The couple kept their relationship out of the spotlight, but were believed to have been engaged earlier in the year. Reports in February said that Michelle, broke the news to her fellow cast members by debuting a beautiful diamond ring on the set of the period drama.
A source told The Sun in February that the British actress was over the moon and showed off her new rock to all the cast and crew members of “Downton Abbey.” The insider added that it was great news and everyone on the set was delighted. Also, the source told that John and Michelle made a lovely couple.
The couple were spotted at the Venice Film Festival, Wimbledon and at polo’s Cartier Queen’s Cup. The 34-year-old actress rarely spoke about her personal life in interviews. “I have a wonderful man in my life from Ireland,” the actress said. She added that they were introduced by her co-star Allen Leech. She did not want to divulge any more details of her fiancé.
