‘DuckTales: Remastered’ Teased For iPhone Release
While most licenced titles draw the ire of most fans, the classic “DuckTales” game was always fondly remembered by anyone who played it. Based on the hit "Disney Afternoon" show, the title proved to be popular enough to get an HD remake called “DuckTales: Remastered.” It was a decent success with fans and it now appears that “DuckTales: Remastered” will be heading to iOS devices.
Game developer Disney Interactive teased the possibility when the company showed a picture of the game on an iPhone through the company’s official Twitter account. The picture could be considered humorous, as it not only has the “DuckTales: Remastered” mobile version on an iPhone, but the game appears to be played in front of actual ducks.
Touch Arcade stated that the game is a classic and that the remake did many things to improve upon its predecessor. The graphics were completely redone to look like the animated series it was based on, while a new storyline and voice acting was added to give the game more depth.
As far as the gameplay is concerned, it is apparently faithful to the original SNES game, which is good news for fans of the classic version. Scrooge will still be able to use his cane as a pogo stick as he ventures through various environments and defeats numerous bosses.
Originally developed by Capcom, the “DuckTales” gameplay has been somewhat influential to other games, specifically the hit indie game “Shovel Knight.” One of that game’s mechanics involved using the shovel as a pogo stick to traverse through environments and get through spiky areas, just like in the original “DuckTales” game.
For now, no proper release date has been given for the possible “DuckTales: Remastered” mobile version. Given that “DuckTales” is set to get a new animated series in 2017 on Disney XD, it appears that the title is being re-released to help hype the show. It’s currently unknown if “DuckTales: Remastered” will be released on other mobile platforms aside from an iPhone, but the title is currently available on Xbox Live, PC and the PlayStation Network.
