Popular defender and captain of the Wellington Phoenix, Andrew Durante has flown to Sydney early this week to join Sydney FC in the upcoming Asian Champions football League Campaign.

This means that his millions of fans can expect him to be in his black and yellow shirt when the Hyundai A-League begins this season.

According to Radio TVNZ, Sydney FC had made a deal with the Phoenix management in hopes to sign up the popular defender. It took them just a few hours to finalize the deal, said the report since the season is about to begin.

Durante explained that he also received a short notice about the plans, having heard from Sydney FC early in the day, adding that the deal had to be sealed before he met the members of his new team.

The player has expressed optimism on the recent development since he last played a couple of years ago, emphasizing that he missed out playing in the Champions league when in 2009, Newcastle Jets qualified after he joined the Phoenix.
