Ellen Degeneres denied entry into the Whitehouse; Star in tears
Renowned talk show host Ellen DeGeneres was barred from entering the Whitehouse. The star was among the 21 invitees who were to be honoured with the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom. The award honours people who make significant contributions to the US national security, culture or other private and public endeavours. Others invited for the ceremony included Robert De Niro, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Hanks.
Ellen received her award on Tuesday. She almost did not get inside the White House, though, as she forgot her ID and was barred from entering into the building. Fortunately, the drama was short-lived. She got the all-clear notification after a few minutes of confusion.
Ellen herself tweeted the news of the incident. She even attached a photo of herself sitting on a bench outside the building. "They haven't let me in to the White House yet because I forgot my ID,” she said.
“I am in!” she tweeted the moment she was allowed in.
Once inside, the star took the most from the famous mannequin challenge. It is a video that went viral recently. The challenge required participants to remain frozen in action like mannequins. They have to remain the same while someone shoots the scene. DeGeneres posted the video of the challenge after one hour.
President Obama had recently made a statement paying tribute to Ellen. She had a passion for equality and fairness, stated the Whitehouse. The star broke down when receiving the award.
The 58-year-old comedian is not the only star who posed with the US president for the mannequin challenge. LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers too posed for the same with President Obama. Theirs was more exciting than this one. Robert Redford, Bruce Springsteen and Lorne Michaels also received the honour this year.
