Eminem reveals addiction recovery; ‘Phenomenal’ rapper dissed by Aussie rapper Bangs
“Phenomenal” rapper Eminem has revealed how he recovered from prescription pill addiction and how he worked out to lose weight. This was weeks after he released his songs featured as the soundtrack of the boxing film “Southpaw.”
In the September 2015 issue of Men’s Journal, Eminem revealed that he worked out with Dr. Dre a few times to lose weight. He said he has always been more into cardiovascular exercise because it also helps improve his breathing, which is important for his performance as a rapper.
“I guess I'm pretty compulsive working out (as) I feel like if I step away from it for too long, if I have a crazy week and take a five-day break, it'll be like starting over,” Eminem told the magazine. He explained that he is afraid that he may lose the motivation if his workout break goes beyond a week.
Eminem admitted that he overdosed on prescription pills, including Valium and Vicodin in 2007, which made him gain weight. To lose weight, the Detroit rapper turned to running and even became meticulous in counting calories.
Meanwhile, Eminem was among the rappers recently dissed by South Sudanese-Australian hip hop artist Ajak Chol, professionally known as Bangs. In a new track titled “Hip Hop Is Dead,” Bangs raps, “Eminem calls himself a rap God, Tyga calls himself the last King. Who should I believe? Both of youse in the bin.”
Aside from Eminem and Tyga, Bangs also mentioned Drake, Meek Mill and Rick Ross in lyrics of “Hip Hop Is Dead,” according to The Music. Weeks before the track’s release, the Australian rapper also slammed Jimmy Fallon in a diss track.
