Epson Moverio BT-200 Smart Glasses vs. Google Glass Explorer Edition
Epson, a premier projection technology leader, has recently released the second generation of wearable technology to compete with the search giant Google on Google Glass.
So how does Epson Moverio BT-200 fare against the Google glass explorer edition?

Google Glass Explorer edition is sold at a staggering 1,509 in Amazon while Epson Moverio BT-200 is pegged at as low as $699.99 in Epson.com and prelaunch.com. It's like a person who intends to buy the wearable gadget can have two units of Epson Moverio BT-200 for one Google Glass Explorer edition. This means that given the same amount, two people can already enjoy the Epson technology but only one person can experience the Google Glass.
Specifications
The exorbitant price of Google Glass is justified by its high-end specifications. According to an article from Know Your Mobile, the wearable gadget has a built-in 5 MP camera with 720 video capture. The tiny piece near the right eye has a display resolution of 640 x 360 pixels which Google claims to provide a picture which is equivalent to a 25-inch high definition display when viewed at a distance of 8 feet.
There is also a bone conduction transducer which transmits audio directly to the small bones located at the person's ears so there is no need for earphones. But users can have the option to avail of an earpiece that can be connected via the 3.5 mm headphone jack. The storage capacity is 16 GB with 12 GB usable capacity, which is fully synced with the Google cloud.
Meanwhile, specifications from Epson.com revealed the front-facing camera of Epson Moverio BT-200 boosts 2x the virtual screen size with a motion tracker delivering large, 2D or 3D images at the front and center. The user still has to use a detachable earphone to listen to the audio. The gadget's storage capacity is only at 4 GB microSDHC card, although the built in card slot can support up to 32 GB microSDHC card. Both gadgets have Bluetooth and WiFi capability so users can surf the net, plat online games, download contents, or check emails.
Other Details
Know Your Mobile cited the glass frame in Google Glass has three sets of adjustable nose pads so it will fit any face as claimed by Google. Similar to a typical smart phone, it is also expected the battery of Google Glass can last one full day of typical use. But Google pointed out that video capture and Google hangouts can consume the battery life at a faster rate.
The spectacle comes with number of apps such as DriveSafe to help drivers maneuver their vehicles safely. The gadget currently runs on Android 4.0 Kikat, although it is now beta-testing for Android 4.4 version. It is also reported there are other upcoming apps for this smart gadget such as Google Wallet and Google music.
The apps that come along with the Google Glass is pilot-tested in real-life setting. For instance, Virgin Atlantic conducted a six-week pilot testing to assess how the wearable technology could improve customer service. Dr. John Halamka, chief information officer of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, also wrote on his blog how he used the technology to help him track patients.
Meanwhile, Epson said the smart eyewear's rechargeable battery life for BT-200 can last up of almost 6 hours. The gadget also runs on Android but it does not specify the version, although it is confirmed that the eye wear has an interactive track pad and smart navigation menus for Android-based games, apps and contents.
Since Moverio BT-200 recently hit the market, its full capabilities and functionalities have yet to be tested by the consumers.
