Evasi0n 6.1.3 Jailbreak Update: Evad3rs Don't Budge, Petition Gets No Result; Apple to End JB?
The Evasi0n 6.1.3 jailbreak petition has so far drawn nearly three thousand signatures, but it is not likely to get a positive result. The best scenario is that evad3rs release a jailbreak for iOS 7 users in the (hopefully) near future. The idea that Apple is putting an end to jailbreaking is widely frowned upon by many iPhone and iDevice users. But how succesful has Apple been, so far?
Many Apple iDevice users did not know evasi0n was not going to jailbreak iOS 6.1.3. The iPhone hackers, however, reached out through the media to announce their plans. A month before 6.1.3 was rolled out, evad3r David Wang told Forbes of his assessment. The Cupertino-based tech giant has yet to fix at least one more bug that was used to develop the evasi0n tool. However, he said his group will not be working on it until the next major iOS iteration.
"We'll probably wait until the next major release," Wang said, hinting that the evad3rs are not giving up -- just choosing a better time for action.
"No (6.1.3) jailbreak until iOS 7? We could be waiting 6 months or more before iOS7 is released and another month or more after that before a jailbreak is available," a petition participant at change.org wrote on the site.
A total of 2,798 signatures have been gathered by the petition addressed to evasi0n. "Evasi0n, please release an untethered jailbreak of ios 6.1.3 and IOS 6.1.4," reads the petition message.
Several sites have been calling the attention of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users since the 6.1.3 was released. The iPhone 5 also got an exclusive 6.1.4 update.
"If you are an iPhone 5 user with a functional jailbreak on your device DO NOT UPGRADE to iOS 6.1.4 -- you will lose your jailbreak," warns iDesignTimes.com.
Users of jailbroken iOS 6.1.2 devices are advised to keep off 6.1.3 and 6.1.4. Many iDevice users have reported difficulties in trying to downgrade from iOS 6.1.3 to 6.1.2 after an "accidental" upgrade installation.
Meanwhile, some important information about this year's annual Worldwide Jailbreak Convention (JailbreakCon) has just been announced. (Follow this link for the International Business Times report on the topic.) The event takes place on August 23-24 at the Radisson Hotel in New Rochelle, New York.
Jailbreakers are driven by need and desire to take control of the devices they paid for. Apple is probably not going to see complete victory against the evad3rs and other hackers. After the iOS7 release, the tech industry will have a better understanding of who is really leading in the developers vs manufacturers control war.
Here is one of the latest tweets from one of the evad3rs, pod2g:
Hi. An idea for Apple to open iOS more, kill jb and related vuln. research: release an alternate firmware version not requiring signed code.
