Facebook Addiction: Insight On Why Users Don’t Want To Log-Out
It is no doubt that Facebook is one of the most if not the most widely visited site worldwide. Based on the book written by Nir Eyal titled "Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products," it shows factors on why the hundreds of millions of users have made Facebook part of their daily routine.
The book reveals the psychological processes that occur when customers' favorite products become part of their daily routines. The phenomenal networking site is fortunate to be a "product" that amazingly has already become a basic in many people's daily living.
Eyal explained that Facebook wants to create an association with each individual every time they are bored or every time they have minutes to spare. The author also related people's addiction to the site as a product of boredom which psychologically speaking is a painful experience for a person. So automatically, when a person gets bored he tends to use the networking site as a solution to lessen if not completely remove the feeling, BGR reports.
Apparently, not all products were as successful as Facebook in hooking its customers and making them comeback without the conscious thought and making the regular log-ins to their accounts as a habit. According to ValueWalk.com, the success of the site also required an investment on the customers' part. Every friend that is added, every likes, every comment happens to be signs of commitment that results to customer loyalty. If a user's post something and his post was liked then the user will associate Facebook as a source of positive emotions.
The social media giant also sends out tons of notifications which leave its users no choice, but to check the them making sure that their accounts are properly managed. The site has somewhat triggered a habit on users to check and open the app as many times as possible in a day.
Google can also be a classic example of a product that has formed a habit and has conditioned the minds of users who do not consider other search engines other than Google. This is so because they have already been accustomed to the site and how the site benefits them.
Finally, Facebook remains to be a refuge for people who want to kill their boredom. Facebook addiction will not be that bad for as long as getting positive emotions are the main reason why users keep coming back.
