With Sam Taylor-Johnson officially on board to direct "Fifty Shades of Grey", a few fans are worried that the strongest contenders for the role of Christian Grey would be put aside. Chances are Sam along with the production studio would pick out less popular stars for the role. Yet, this has not stopped Ian Somerhalder from hoping he'd be picked. What did the "Vampire Diaries" star have else to say?

"Fifty Shades of Grey" fan favourite, Ian Somerhalder, hasn't said anything as of late regarding his campaign for the film adaptation. For one, the "Vampire Diaries" star has been earning a lot of nods on social networking sites for the role.

It's been a while since fans have last heard of this Christian Grey favourite and finally the actor speaks up from his long week silence. In an interview with Entertainment Wise, Ian states with the race for the role still wide open, he's still hoping to be part of the film.

"It could be anyone -- that's how that goes," said Somerhalder, adding, "Every guy in Hollywood is up for this role."

While Somerhalder's answer may disappoint a few fans, it's obviously clear Ian isn't giving up without a fight unlike a few other actors who had initially been eyed for the role. Armie Hammer, Michael Fassbender and Stephen Amell have outright spoken that they aren't interested in the role of Christian Grey.

Even "Man of Steel" favourite, Henry Cavill could be out of the running for the role given the "schedule conflicts" with the upcoming sequel of the said film. Matt Bomer is the only strong contender left to fight against Ian for the role but chances are Matt would bow out given he too has stated his disinterest in the role.

Hopefully, Sam Taylor-Johnson does a pretty good job of picking a suitable actor for the role if Ian Somerhalder by any chance doesn't get picked. Still, fans of Somerhalder can only hope.
