Obviously, Ian Somerhalder has won the favour of "Fifty Shades of Grey" fans. The "Vampire Diaries" actor is constantly at the top of the polls for the role of Christian Grey and judging from a past audition tape, Somerhalder is everything that is sexy and smooth. Before Ian Somerhalder had risen to fame thanks to playing Damon Salvatore of "The Vampire Diaries", Ian was "Lost" - literally. Back in 2005, Somerhalder starred in the famous television show, "Lost." Ian had apparently tried real hard for the role judging from his audition tape. Check it out below.

If anything, the whole audition tape is likely to resemble Ian's future audition for the role of Grey. Complete with the dark brooding eyes, chiselled jaw and authoritative voice, Ian would most definitely win the role of Christian Grey if he auditioned for it exactly like this one.

Of course, Ian may be the current favourite but there is still tight competition for the role of Christian Grey. Other notable names also in the running for the role include Matt Bomer, Henry Cavill, Jessie Pavelka, Stephen Amell and Ryan Gosling.

On the other hand, the actress for Anastasia Steele is a tight bout between Alexis Bledel and Emilia Clarke. A few other possible stars named in countless lists include Ian's on and off screen beau, Nina Dobrev, Lucy Hale, Allison Williams and Katie Cassidy.

With a director still not seated, casting may take a while much less auditions for the role. However, if Universal Studios and Focus Features do start to hold auditions for the role of Grey, they need only to check out Somerhalder's 2005 audition for him to bag the role of Christian Grey.
