'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Casting: Rooney Mara as Anastasia Steele [PHOTOS]
"Fifty Shades of Grey" is far from over. While the hype may have first broke into the scene October of last year, the buzz for the film adaptation continue. E.L. James may have stated that casting is far off schedule but that isn't stopping fans from rounding up potential celebrities for the lead roles. One new name included in the bunch of possible actresses for Anastasia Steele is "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's" Rooney Mara.
Rooney Mara catapulted to fame as Lisbeth Salander in the film adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." All thanks to Rooney's nude scenes in the film, the actress showed off quite the potential to play a racier role as Ana in "Fifty Shades." The actress has large eyes that greatly resemble that of Ana's and with Mara's young look, the actress could easily pass off as a 21-year old.
Apart from the nudity on screen and the looks, one interview done by Mara had people asking if it was "Fifty Shades" Mara was referring to.
"I'm interested in the duality of people," said Mara in an interview with The Daily Beast, adding, "I have a lot of darkness and frenetic energy inside myself, so it's easier for me to portray people with shades of gray."
The comment had fans of "Fifty" thinking if Rooney was talking about "Fifty Shades." While Mara may have the potential to play the elusive role of Anastasia Steele, Rooney has a whole lot of competition for the role. Currently in the lead for the role of Ana is "Gilmore Girls" Alexis Bledel. Following close is "Game of Thrones" star, Emilia Clarke while in at third is Felicity Jones from "Like Crazy."
"Twilight" star, Kristen Stewart, "Harry Potter's" Emma Watson and "Pretty Little Liars'" Ashley Benson are just a few other stars whose names have been included in the mix. "The Vampire Diaries'" Nina Dobrev and "Abduction" star, Lily Collins have also been mentioned as potential actresses to play Anastasia Steele.
Before casting even does push through, Universal Studios is busy finding a suitable director plus the script by Kelly Marcel isn't even halfway done. All fans can do is sit back and wait to see who gets the lead roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.
