Firefox finally finds its way to Apple iOS
Firefox underwent tough tests to ensure it worked fine on all web pages
Firefox users can now surf the web browser on their iOS devices, announced Mozilla this Thursday. The new version of the Firefox browser uses the in-built iOS WebKit-based layout engine and not the Gecko layout engine.
Some might recall the 2010 release, FireFox Home for iOS devices wasn’t a browser but was used to sync a computer so as to access bookmarks and browsing history for transfer onto a smartphone or tablet. It was taken out for some reason in 2012 but now Firefox fans can enjoy the browser in their iOS devices.
For the first time, Firefox includes ‘Intelligent Search’ that suggests correct search engines for advanced search results. Feature like ‘Visual Tabs’ helps to manage multiple browser tabs at one go. Other settings in the app allow using a Firefox account to import bookmarks, browser history and more from a PC to an iOS device.
Private browsing mode with Tracking Protection is an exclusive feature that lets you browse the web without being followed by other websites. As a result, you don’t worry about sharing cookies with other websites as long as the browser is in Private Mode, reported Gadgets NDTV.
Before its iOS release, Firefox underwent comprehensive tests to ensure it worked fine on all web pages. Pages load quickly in Safari and Chrome since Firefox shares the same underlying code with these two browsers.
You may want to use Firefox on iOS for two major reasons. The first is that you think Mozilla is the key to getting the best searches on a web browser compared to others. Second, you want to sync tab histories and synchronised bookmarks from your PC to your iOS device, reports arstechnica.
Some time back, Yahoo said Firefox desktop users will get better images in search results. Therefore, when searching for any celebrity or movie title, a banner flashes on top of page showing related videos and images.
