A First Good Look at Asus Transformer Book T100
Asus continues to be on a roll as CEO Jerry Shen revealed the latest Transformer Book T100 convertible during the IDF in San Francisco. The newest model for the series includes an all new quad-core Intel Bay Trail-T processor (the Atom Z3740). Other features include 10.1in 1366 x 768 IPS touchscreen, 2 GB Ram and Windows 8.1.
The newest line of Transformer Book T100 offers two models: 32 GB and 64 GB. The 32G model starts at $349, while the 64 GB starts at $399. There is a micro-SD slot that will allow users to expand the storage as preferred.
Additional connectivity options include micro-HDMI, micro-USB and a USB 3.0 port. Users can find the USB port within the detachable keyboard. As the keyboard does not come with a battery, the 31 Wh cell of the tablet supports it as well. When running the keyboard and the tablet altogether, Asus claims the new T100 can last up to 11 hours.
That is a lot of battery life for just one battery.
The tablet alone is just 544g. The keyboard adds another 1kg. Both components are made of plastic. The tablet sports a glossy painted finish. This requires users to polish the back and touch screen regularly.
Setting apart the polishing requirement, the convertible is impressive. As Asus has proven throughout the months, they know how to put together a portable device. Despite not having the highest resolution screen, it still remains as a decent choice. The Transformer T100 can play 1080p videos without any problem. The device runs basic Window desktop applications. Users can finish their work and manage their multimedia with ease.
Additionally, the device also sports a scaled down version of integrated graphics because of the Ivy Bridge processors from Intel. This should support playing 3D games. The new Asus Transformer Book T100 better than Google's Chromebook.
This tablet offers great value for your money compared to other offerings on the market. However, Asus will have to compete against Toshiba and Dell, as they have also just released their Windows 8.1 tablets. Asus can also release updates or upgrades for the Transformer series if the company wants to make sure their tablets stand out from the stiff competition.
