Before its downfall in 2013, developer THQ was reportedly working on an “Avengers” video game which had great promise. Sadly, the game was scrapped because it was too costly, and it never saw any footage or image release, and not much was known about it until now. A new video spotted online shows off the game’s features and overall gameplay.

The video seen below is courtesy of Unseen64 and Did You Know gaming, VG247 reports. It shows off what looks to be a very different take on Marvel’s “Avengers” franchise as it lets players control the iconic heroes in a first-person view. Pretty much like Valve’s “Left 4 Dead,” the game is cooperative and features four players working together to accomplish a single goal.

The game features the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and Captain America. Apparently, Hawkeye and Black Widow were supposed to be made playable as unlockables in the title.

The gameplay itself features a promising take on the franchise and the first-person genre. Each view of the players varies depending on the characters they are playing. As Iron Man, players are shown the infamous computer interface of Tony Stark, while as the Incredible Hulk, gamers get to view the gigantic fists of the hero. Core gameplay features include setting up combos between the heroes so they could dish out highly damaging attacks. Gamers could also choose to play with other player-controlled characters or the AI.

The game was in development at Studio Australia and was being made solely for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, another developer, Blue Tongue, was tasked with a PC version. The game was even scheduled to launch with the “Avengers” film back in 2012, but it was not a tie-in game for the movie. Instead, the developers created their own storyline inspired by the famous Secret Invasion arc of Marvel.
