Samsung Galaxy S5 release date may happen in a month or two. But why wait if you can get the unlocked version of the new Galaxy J for $740.

When Samsung first announced the Galaxy J in October, it was thought that it was only meant for the Japanese market. However, the device appeared again early this week in a video teaser from Samsung's subsidiary in Taiwan. The smartphone will hit the market later this month.

The device turned the heads of many people as they thought that it was the long-rumored Samsung Galaxy S5. Samsung Galaxy J boasts a 5-inch Full HD 1080p Super AMOLED display. Like the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy J packs a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor paired with 3 GB of RAM. Other features include 13 MP rear camera and 2 MP front-facing camera, 32 GB internal storage with expandable storage of up to 64 GB via microSD slot.

The device will also pack the usual wireless connectivity standards like 4G, NFC and Wi Fi. The handset packs a removable 2,600 mAh Li-on battery. To the dismay of many Samsung fans, the handset runs with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS with TouchWiz UI and not the Android 4.4 Kitkat OS. Samsung Galaxy J also comes in pink and white color variants.

One of the selling points of the new Samsung Galaxy J is its metal casing. Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumored to pack the same metal body ditching the usual plastic casing of the Galaxy S line.

Aside from a metal built, Samsung Galaxy S5 will come with a slimmer body. The thinner design may be due to the LDS Antenna technology like in the Galaxy Note 3 to ensure that this becomes possible.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is reported to pack a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and 560 ppi, 14 nm 64-bit Exynos processor clocked at 2.5 GHz, 16 MP camera, a separate Adreno 330 GPU and a long battery life. It is still unconfirmed whether Samsung Galaxy S5 will run with Android 4.4 Kitkat OS or will pack Tizen OS and Firefox OS.
