Fox News guest Morgan Ortagus on Tuesday described the upcoming Summer Olympics in Toyko as the "Genocide Olympics," confusing Japan with China.

Some human rights groups have alleged that China has committed genocide against Uyghur Muslims. Japan has no involvement with the atrocities and in April even raised "serious concerns" over China's treatment of Uyghur Muslims.

Ortagus' comments weren't merely a slip of the tongue, as she gave an extended comment about the Olympics.

"I like to call them the 'Genocide Olympics,' anyway. I'm still on the team that I'm not even sure that we should be competing because there is an ongoing genocide in Xinjiang. So, if we are going to go to a country, if we are going to compete, have American athletes there, in a country that's committing a genocide -- even more important, Harris, to have the freedom of the American flag fully represented," Ortagus said.

The comments were made on the afternoon program “Outnumbered," which included hosts Harris Faulkner, Emily Compagno, Kayleigh McEnany, and their guest David Avella, the chairman of GOPAC.

All four of the panelists did not correct Ortagus. Faulkner responded "wow."

Ortagus, 40, is a financial analyst and political advisor. She served as a State Department spokesperson from 2019 to 2021.

As of early Tuesday evening, Ortagus has not taken to social media to explain or correct her comments.
