Amidst its ongoing iPad trade-in deals, U.S. retailer Best Buy is training its eyes on Android lovers, possibly luring more buys by dangling the Samsung Galaxy S3 for free and possibly hinting of the fast-approaching Galaxy Note 3 release date.

Is it possible that Best Buy store shelves will soon stock the third-generation Samsung phablet, the specs of which seem to leak by the day?

The company is silent on the matter, dodging even suggestions that its marketing promos are the proxy campaigns of Apple and Samsung as the two tech titans make their push to wipe out old inventories to make way for new ones, which should be the iPhone 5S and the Note 3 respectively.

If analysts are spot-on on their forecasts, the two upscale handsets will crash the scene in September - the Note 3 on September while the 5S on the 20th.

As far as Best Buy is concerned, the retailer is merely implementing a program meant "to increase customer awareness," of the gadget products it offers.

Besides, "it' great for our business and it's great for customers," the company told ABC News.

And why it would not be as shoppers lusting for the GS3, for the longest time, can finally take home the former Samsung flagship without spending a dime. They only need to bring an old working mobile phone, which will be checked and appraised.

Chances are the handset will get a 4 the handset will get a $50 credit value or more, which is the current tag price of the GS3 on display by Best Buy shelves. Take note that the virtual loot come with two-year contract.

Or if buyers have already outgrown their love for the GS3, they can spend the gift card snapping up any of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2, which the seller carries at $200 and $300 respectively, again with lock-in periods. Remember that the minimum $50 value for handsets to be exchanged is subject to go up, depending on the condition of the device.

The ABC report did not mention though if customers can hold on to the gift cards they obtained and use them in later in getting discounts once the Note 3 becomes available.

Release date for the Galaxy Note 3 is expected in the first week of September via an exclusive Samsung event dubbed as Episode 2 Unpacked.
