Fall 2014 is an important time frame with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 set for release along with Samsung Galaxy Note 4, among others. Furthermore, the general interest in the next-generation iPad model is quite rife. During mid-July, we reported that three Apple iPad versions are in the offing, i.e. iPad Mini 3, iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro. However, freshly leaked Apple iPad Air 2 cases/covers corroborate the already existing reports that the upcoming tablet will, indeed, come with Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

What is New?

Many leaks pertaining to the prototype and the dummy units of the iPad Air 2 were witnessed in the recent past. However, the recent images of the upcoming iPad Air 2 case clearly show the semi-circled place holder for the Touch ID, according to MobileFun via GSMArena.

The leaked images are reportedly from a Chinese cover/case manufacturer. Seemingly, this unnamed Chinese unit listed the iPad Air 2 case with the release date set in fall. It is very apparent from the case that the much-loved fingerprint scanner will be in-fixed in the home button.

Interested readers should check out the images of the iPad Air 2 dummy enclosed in the newly leaked case. According to earlier reports, the upcoming Apple iPad Air 2 will relatively be smaller than the current iPad Air model.

In addition to the fingerprint scanner and the thinner and lighter profile info, the next-generation iPad Air will reportedly be powered by the new A8 chipset. Notably, the upcoming iPhone 6 will also be powered by the same chipset. Moreover, the tablet is expected to house an 8-MP rear-facing camera, whereas the current model comes with only 5-MP primary camera unit. Nevertheless, the display size and the screen resolution will stay the same at 9.7-inch and 1,536 x 2,048 pixels respectively.

In addition, it is rumoured that the upcoming device will come equipped with an in-built storage capacity of 32 GB for the base model, instead of 16 GB seen in the current base model. It is worth noting that the recent quarterly results from Apple clearly showed a decline in iPad sales. Despite this, iPhone and Mac saw good growth in sales.

With the current sales trend in mind, Apple is expected to go aggressive on the marketing of the upcoming iPads. Also, the iPad Air 2 release date is slated for November 2014. When it comes to price range, the speculated iPad Air 2 will be priced at £399, which is in line with the current iPad Air model. However, there is no official word from Apple thus far.
