'Friends' cast reunite for one-off special to honour director
It’s been almost 12 years since the last episode of NBC hit TV show “Friends” aired, but fans still could not get over of the beloved sitcom.
The long wait is over, as the “Friends” cast will reunite next month for a one-off, two-hour special to celebrate veteran sitcom director James Burrows, who hit his 1,000th episode milestone.
Of Burrows’ 1,000 episodes, 15 were “Friends,” spanning from the show’s 10-year run. His memorable works include “The One with the Prom Video,” “The One Where Ross and Rachel Take A Break” and “The One the Morning After.”
According to TVLine, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry will all be on board for the telecast. The network has yet to confirm, though, if all six will be able to film together.
"I'm hoping all six of them will be all in the same room at the same time, but I'm not sure if we can logistically pull that off," said Bob Greenblatt, NBC's chair of entertainment, as quoted by Pedestrian.
LeBlanc, who captured the hearts of fans as the goofy but charming Joey Tribbiani, shared the news to his Twitter followers. He mused, “Should be a good time!” A day after LeBlanc posted his tweet, it received more than 14,000 likes and more than 15,000 retweets.
Reports hint that the telecast will be similar to the high-rated “Saturday Night Live” 40th Anniversary Special aired on February 2014. In addition to the “Friends” cast reunion, stars from other popular Burrows series will also get together for the special, including “Taxi,” “Cheers,” “Frasier” and “Will & Grace.” Cast members from “The Big Bang Theory,” “Mike & Molly” and other recent Burrows programs will also appear to pay tribute to the director.
Burrows clocked in his 1,000th episode in November 2015, after directing an episode of NBC’s comedy “Crowded.” The all-star special is scheduled to tape later this month in Los Angeles. It will air on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 9/8c.
