Old is gold, but when was the last time a flip phone was used? In specific, an Android flip phone? Apparently, Samsung is not giving up and hence the retro model is back with a bang. The Samsung Galaxy Golden flip smartphone was released and forgotten in 2013. However now, it is getting a new successor in Galaxy Golden 2.

According to a recent leak, the high-end Samsung Galaxy Golden 2 is heading to China Telecom. Samsung has improved the device's screen this time around. On the face of it, the company was at the receiving end of quite a lot of flaks for the dismal screen housed in 2013's Galaxy Golden handset. But now, two congruent screens are used both inside and outside. The display is a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED screen with WXGA resolution of 1,280 x 768 pixels on both the screens. The earlier model comes with a relatively inferior 3.7-inch and 3.5-inch WVGA screens, reports GSM Arena.

Under the hood, the handset will reportedly be powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 801) Krait 400 processor, clocked at 2.5 GHz and Adreno 330 for graphics. Plus, this smartphone will be backed by a good 2 GB of RAM and will run on Android v4.4.4 KitKat OS. The original 2013 handset, on the other hand, is powered by an inferior dual-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Krait 300 processor, clocked at 1.7 GHz and Adreno 305 for graphics. The phone comes equipped with 1.5 GB of RAM and runs on Android v4.2 Jelly Bean OS. Hence the latest model in the Golden series of flip phones is a worthy successor to the 2013 version.

Moving on to the camera configuration, the Galaxy Golden will sport a whopping 16 MP primary camera unit with the ability to record 2160p videos. In addition, there is also a 2 MP front-facing shooter for selfies. Furthermore, the device supports dual-SIM and employs micro-SIM. If reports are true, the handset will support GSM and CDMA networks, similar to other Chinese smartphones. However there is no word on the LTE support at this point.

Moreover, there is no information available to ascertain the release date outside China at this point. Interested readers can check out the sketches of the Samsung Galaxy Golden 2 handset from TechTastic.
