Samsung astonished the world by launching the new Galaxy Note phablet in two editions, the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge. The latter is the very first smartphone from the South Korean tech giant to feature a bent display.

Are you thinking about upgrading from Galaxy Note 3 to a new Note 4 variant? Let us compare the two new Note devices to help you understand one among which of the two you should purchase.

Design and Display

The thickness of Galaxy Note 4 is 8.5mm whereas that of Galaxy Note Edge is 8.3mm. The former weighs 176g and the latter is of 174g. The Note 4 is available in colors like white, black, gold and pink. The Note Edge is available only in two colors, white and black.

The Note Edge sports a slightly smaller display of 5.6inch than the 5.7inch display of Note 4. Hence, the Galaxy Note 4 measures 153.5mm x 78.6mm and the Note 4 measures 151.3mm x 82.4mm. If you are not satisfied with the huge size of Galaxy Note 3, you will not be happy to know that the Note Edge is a wider device.

Both house Super AMOLED display screens. What is unique about the display of Note Edge is that there is extra display area occupied on the right side of the device. Hence, it comes with a quad HD+ resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels. It offers a pixel count of 524ppi.

The Galaxy Note 4 features a quad HD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and pixel density of 515ppi. Even when the Galaxy Note Edge remains locked, users can view notifications through the edge display. It even doubles up as a flashlight and a ruler.

Processor, RAM and Storage

Both Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge feature quad-core Snapdragon 805 Krait 450 CPU. However, there is a slight difference in the processing speed. The Note 4 produces 2.7GHz speed whereas the Note Edge produces 2.5GHz speed. Both are also available in Exynos 5433 octa-core CPU variants as well. The Note 4 and the Note Edge feature 3GB RAM respectively.

Samsung is offering the Note 4 in single internal storage option of 32GB. The Note Edge will be available in two internal storage options like 16GB and 32GB. The external memory slot of both the phablet can detect up to 64GB of microSD.

Camera and Sensors

In the camera segment too, there is no difference at all. The Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge feature 16MP primary camera at the backside with Optical Image Stabilization. Both are equipped with 3.7MP front-facing selfie shooting cameras. The selfie camera is capable of snapping wider angle photos of up to 120 degrees. It is capable of snapping good quality photos in low lighting environments.

Both phablets feature plenty of sensors like fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, ambient light, barometer, proximity, gyroscope, compass, hall, heart rate monitor, SpO2 and UV.

Connectivity and Battery

The Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge have the same connectivity features like Bluetooth v4.1, microUSB v2.0 along with MHL 2, 3G, LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, aGPS and GLONASS.
