Galaxy Note 8 Arrives in Australia in a Week: Better than Nexus 7 and iPad Mini?
Galaxy Note 8 is arriving in Australia within the next couple of days. Those who have made pre-orders will soon enjoy this new device from Samsung Electronics. The Note 8 is expected to steal gadget shoppers from Google Nexus 7 and Apple iPad mini. What shopping reasons could drive buyers into choosing or rejecting the new small tablet from Samsung?
1. Value for money. MobiCity is taking Note 8 pre-orders for $449 (16GB, WiFi only). In contrast, the Apple iPad mini costs $369. The Nexus 7, which is currently out of stock on the popular Aussie online store, is much cheaper at $259. Despite its more expensive price tag, the Note 8 is attractive for its robust system. It carries a quad-core 1.6GHz processor, with 2GB of RAM, and displays a screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.
Storage expansion is also allowed for up to 64GB with a microSD card. Nexus 7 features the same screen resolution, but on a screen smaller by 1 inch. The iPad mini is powered by only 512MB of RAM. Nexus 7 and iPad mini does not allow storage expansion. Considering brainpower, screen display, storage and battery, the Note 8 has more to offer.
2. Latest Android OS. Being a Google device, the Nexus 7 is expected to be ahead in a queue to get the latest Android iterations. The Galaxy Note 8 will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, but it will receive updates shortly. But buyers are aware the N7 is turning a year old soon. A new Nexus 7 will be out, and it will probably ship with Android 5 Key Lime Pie. Early Android adopters might want to wait for the next small Android tablet from Google.
3. The Note S-Pen. The Samsung S-Pen stylus offers users a unique small tablet experience. Note 2 phablet users give the S-Pen rave reviews for what it allows them to do -- for business and social media fun. Gadget shoppers who would like to have a small tablet that comes with its own stylus will go for the Note 8.
Only the WiFi variant of the Galaxy Note 8 will be released in a week. Aussie tablet shoppers will have to wait for about a month for the 3G edition of the latest Samsung device.
