Galaxy S5 Prime (Codename KQ) Confirmed to Sport QHD 2K Display, Exynos SoC 20nm Chip & Intel LTE Cat6 on Release Date

The Galaxy S5 Prime release date seems nearing reality very soon as a new report pointed to key confirmed specs of the premium Samsung flagship smartphone.

Samsung had earlier dismissed speculations of a better-specced Galaxy S5 that the company has started rolling out on April 11. However, SamMobile reported this week that the GS5 Prime is touching down soon and ongoing works on the device will wrap up shortly.

Codenamed Project KQ, the GS5 Prime appears to be the offshoot of Samsung's original plan to match the iPhone with a Galaxy device that offers overwhelming specs and features. The handset was first thought to feature a metallic frame and a Retina-busting display panel.

SamMobile claimed that the GS5 was originally designed to brandish features and components that will make it a certified iPhone killer but yield issues during the manufacturing process forced the creation instead of a separate device.

So enter the Galaxy S5 Prime and if the SamMobile report is to be believed, most of the speculations surrounding the handset could be true. And three of the most-whispered GS5 Prime features are listed below:

AMOLED QHD technology and 2K display

With the production glitch concerning the mass shipment of Quad HD-laced Galaxy S5 now behind it, Samsung is reportedly all set to unbox the GS5 premium edition that boasts of 2560 x 1440 screen pixels - still in Super HD AMOLED rendition.

The same screen vastly improves from the original GS5's 1080p display panel and should dwarf over the Prime's rivals - iOS and Android alike. Note, however, that LG is rushing its G3 flagship to the market and according to Android Central - it is QHD boosted.

8-core Exynos processing chips

For the brutish GS5 Prime, the main engine would be the Exynos 5430 SoC that SamMobile said is a level higher from 5422. This chipset is actually composed of a 2.1GHz Cortex-A15 and a 1.5GHz Cortex A7 with a bonus - the Cortex-A5 co-processor.

The latter, per BGR, is specifically tasked for audio-related processing in the GS5 Prime - from encoding, decoding to sound output equalisation.

Housed in the same Samsung's in-house Exynos SoC is a Mali Midgard GPU that hums away at top-speed of 600MHz, thereby completing a powerhouse but super energy-efficient workhorse of a machine seated inside the GS5 Prime.

Intel-made LTE chip

The GS5 Prime, SamMobile said, is beneficiary of an LTE modem that is embedded with Intel's XMM7260 Category 6 chip. That means the handset can accommodate a dizzying wireless broadband speed of up to 300MBPS.

This is true for the Galaxy S5 Prime Euro edition, SamMobile noted on its report.

While no specifics were provided, the report implied too that Project KQ is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2014 - thus pointing to a Galaxy S5 Prime release date between May and June, also in the same period.
