Galaxy S5 Q1 2014 Release Date Confirmed? Backside Control Keys, 20MP Rear Cam & Transparent Display Emerge as Likely Killer Features
Reports from South Korea indicated that Samsung is pushing big on the first quarter of 2014, releasing as many as five freshly-made Galaxy smartphones, purportedly to be headlined by a very powerful and forward-looking Galaxy S5.
Pointing to ETNews as source, BGR reported that there'll be a barrage of release dates from Samsung that surely will satisfy the cravings of millions of Sammy fans. Part of the healthy servings, the same report said, is the super-phone Galaxy S5.
It has been long rumoured that the GS5 will take the place of the Galaxy S4 much earlier than expected, likely January and February of next year. The reason given by analysts: Samsung would want to sustain it incredible sales performance in the past few quarters but the GS4 appears to be losing its steam.
So the GS5 is being rushed into existence. But as hints and leaks coming from Samsung and other sources have shown, the GS4 replacement is far from being a product of crammed work. All indications suggest the device will be a stunner from the outside and will be a definitive powerhouse from within, complete of course with the iPhone 5S-busting killer features.
Unlike in the previous iterations, the Galaxy S5 will be metallic, its innards having an aluminium chassis and is covered by metal mostly in the back portion at the outside, which melds with a flexible display panel that likely overlaps on both edges for a wraparound effect.
The GS5 will draw its power from either an 8-core Exynos chip or a quad-core Snapdragon 805 CPU that belongs to the 64-bit class, allowing the use of 4GB of RAM or higher and the most advanced Adreno graphic engine.
But the incredible servings don't stop there. Below are three of the latest features that likely the Galaxy S5 will show off on release date:
20MP rear shooter
This week, reports surfaced that Samsung is developing a camera phone will boast of a 20 megapixel lens, nearly matching what Nokia has been displaying with the high-end Lumia smartphones.
While the specific cam feature was connected automatically to the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy S6, it is not too impossible that Samsung would accelerate the completion of the exciting technology in order to kick up the GS5's supposed 16MP shooter.
Transparent display
From 5-inch in GS4, the Galaxy S5 is said to stretch its screen to 5.2-inch with 2K resolution and 560ppi of pixel density. But to provide more distinction to its screen display innovation, Samsung is reportedly using a transparent display on theGS5.
According to Patent Bolt, "the focus of the invention is on providing a future smartphone with a transparent display that is able to accept touch controls on both the front and back side of the transparent display separately or simultaneously to control actions, move icons, control video playback and more."
With the feature, GS5 users can navigate through applications and folders without obscuring any part of the viewing window.
Super-thin form factor
In another patent picked by Patent Bolt, Samsung partly revealed the future makes of the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4. From the sketches, viewable here, the devices are depicted with very thin and light build, pointing too to reconfigurations of control buttons and port placements.
As mentioned, the Galaxy S5 release date is set to happen in the first three months of 2014 with late January as the earliest possible debut time.
