Galaxy S5 Release Date on Feb 2014 to Pick Up Losing Steam of Galaxy S4? Expect Curved Display & 4000mAh Battery as Among New Killer Features
Release date of the Galaxy S5 could come as early as February 2014 as Samsung reportedly scrambles to replace the Galaxy S4, which rumours said is fast-losing its traction in the sales department.
So far, the GS4 racked up some 40 million in total shipments but the numbers seemed to have reached the peak level as consumers turn their eyes on fresher flagships namely the iPhone 5S and Samsung's own Galaxy Note 3.
Despite the holiday season, the GS4 decline could prove irreversible, leaving Samsung no choice but to rush the rollout of its next hero phone, which is move that is hardly surprising from a company like Samsung, CNET said in a report.
"The Korean monolith has the ability to make just about anything on a massive scale as quickly as it likes and likely has no qualms with cannibalizing sales of its zillions of other smartphone models, including the Galaxy S4," the same report said.
But of course, getting that the Galaxy S5 for 2013 Christmas season is next to impossible at the moment. The earliest Sammy fans can expect to get the Galaxy 2014 upgrade is late February, that is if reports from South Korea would prove true.
It was claimed by ETNews last week that volume production of the GS5 would commence on January 2014, likely positioning Samsung to unwrap the device in the following month. That would be 30 days earlier before the GS4 marks its 12th month in circulation.
So the Asian tech giant is taking no chance as the competitions, chiefly Apple, gradually surge. But will the Galaxy S5 tickle buyers' interest with its so-called killer features?
Among the fresh Galaxy S5 offerings, according to ValueWalk.com, is a massive battery of 4000mAh, which normally comes with tablet computers. Granted Samsung can stuff the GS5 with such an upsized power-source the feature, however, opens up one big question: Is the GS5 going a bit bulky on 2014?
That is a possibility but with the entry of YOUM display technology into the picture, a heftier Galaxy S5 would be prevented.
As indicated in published patents coming from Apple and Samsung, bendable display panels like YOUM also paves the way for new manufacturing techniques that would allow device makers to produce thin and light smartphones but with higher battery rating for longer operating hours.
This combination of new technologies will likely be employed by Samsung with its Galaxy S5, somehow ensuring that it will sport a sexy form-factor and power specs at the same time.
But compromises could still b part of the Galaxy S5 out of the box and one of them is its body material. For maximum flexibility and to keep a lid on production cost, Samsung could still opt for polycarbonate covering though a metallic chassis could not be discounted as suggested by leaked reports in the past week.
In the end, however, the Galaxy S5 on release date would offer an attractive mix of power specs and features led by the following: a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display in 2K resolution at 560ppi, an 8-core Exynos chip or quad-core Snapdragon 805 chip - both in 64-bit computing standard, 4GB of RAM and a 16MP main cam shooter with ISOCELL technology.
