Galaxy S5 Release Date Rumour: 4 Killer Features Hinted by Leaked Metal Chassis of Galaxy S4 Replacement
Those who eagerly wait for the Galaxy S5 release date have reasons to rejoice as the Samsung hero smartphone appears heading to the premium path, ditching its plastic frame in favour of a likely metallic skeleton.
From France, specifically from NowhereElse.fr, a new batch of alleged GS5 chassis pics emerged, showing the frame that will hold the upcoming handset's powerful components together. The gallery is viewable here.
If the images turned out to be true, the year 2014 marks Samsung's device model shift from the cheap-looking but durable plastic that the Asian tech giant uses to houses its Galaxy devices across the board.
First, the move should halt all the flaks Sammy devices have been attracting from experts and consumers alike. But importantly, a more solid Galaxy S5 would make the Apple-Samsung more interesting.
This early, the GS5 has been generating interests as persistent rumour point to a very powerful and sexy device, brimming with killer features - some of which are hinted anew by the French-provided pictures.
They are listed below:
Above 5-inch screen display profile
Samsung appears to be stretching the GS5 screen size again after serving the Galaxy S4 in a 5-incn display form factor. While no specific measurement was given at the moment, the GS5 will likely sport a larger screen from its predecessor, BGR said.
Rear cam lens pushed back to edge
In the GS4 and the Galaxy Note 3, Samsung placed the main camera lens right at the centre of the upper portion of the back cover. This design model will allegedly be revised as shown in the leaked GS5 metal framing, according to Droid Life.
As to why, no explanation was offered.
Audio jack relocated to the bottom of the device
The headphone hole, as seen in the new images, is now at the bottom part of the GS5, another solid clue that Samsung is implementing a major remodelling of its 2014 Galaxy flagship.
Faster charging time with USB 3.0 port
With the Note 3, Samsung shortened the time required before the device is topped-up in energy juice, which is a killer feature that will be seen too via the GS5, per the NowhereElse.fr images. Thanks to USB 3.0, this will be made possible. It would also mean that data transfer will be in break-neck speed.
Not really playing a killjoy, but GSMArena noted that nothing is written on stone here. It could be that the Galaxy S5 will end up using the metal chassis but outside Samsung can still opt to use plastic, which the South Korean tech giant insists is more resistant to scratch plus wear and tear.
Regardless, the Galaxy S5 is rumoured to come out a little earlier than expected, its release date pegged for January 2014 and the handset is seen to show off an 8-core Exynos or a quad-core Snapdragon 805 chip with 64-bit computing and up to 4GB of RAM provision.
