The escalating Galaxy S5-iPhone 6 grudge match seems to be getting interesting by the day as Samsung hinted this week possible power specs that its 2014 flagship will proudly show off come the much-anticipated release date.

Apple's first phablet-size handset, the iPhone 6, is widely believed to showcase an enhanced version of the 64-bit A7 chip that the iPhone 5S has earlier featured. Analysts believe that the next iPhone will rely on an A8 powerhouse, which should flex more muscles than what the 5S has already displayed.

Not to be outdone, Samsung trumpeted this week that its 2014 premium smartphone will employ the Exynos S CPU. According to Gotta Be Mobile, "the Exynos 6 would feature a true octa-core architecture allowing all 8 cylinders to fire at the same time."

Recall that in specific versions of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, Exynos 5 was used. While the processing chip carries 8-core capabilities, only four cores are activated at a given time. Apparently in the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4, Samsung will provide more punch with its in-house CPU.

The company has indicated too that the Exynos S processing chip will be previewed come the 2014 CES in Las Vegas that will run from Jan 7 to 10.

And deeply embedded with 64-bit mobile computing prowess is the ability of upcoming smartphones to accommodate higher RAM provisions, which was strongly signalled to be part of the iPhone 6 thrust.

As the iPhone 5S successor is rumoured to be carrying at least 4GB of RAM on release date, Samsung declared this week that is all set to mass produce a new 8GB LPDDR4 chipset by the first quarter of 2014.

With the new technology readily available for high-end Galaxy gadgets, the Galaxy S5 can be expected to boast of 4GB LPDDR4, which according to Samsung "can provide the highest level of performance available today."

While the company refused to dwell on specifics, industry watchers are quick to assume that Exynos 6 and at least 4GB of RAM are all but confirmed to come out of the box once the Galaxy S5 unboxing gets underway.

In essence, the developing dogfight between the GS5 and the iPhone 6 is becoming more exciting with both camps (Apple and Samsung) trying to outmuscle each other in power specs and killer features that will end up in the final build of the 2014 flagships.

On their separate 2014 release dates, the Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 6 are also touted to introduce the following jaw-dropping features: a 4.7-inch screen, a virtually indestructible Liquidmetal casing with sapphire glass cover and coating for the iOS smartphone; and a 5.2-inch display panel plus a metallic frame for the Android-based device.
