One killer iPhone feature that Apple will unleash soon is the smartphone's gaming capabilities, a new report said, likely to be showcased with the impending iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 release dates.

The fresh offering is embedded with the upgraded iOS 7, Apple Insider said in a report, and will be complemented by companion iPhone tools to come out shortly after the new mobile OS' scheduled debut on September.

Among these exciting products is Logitech's gaming controller that is exclusively 'Made for iPhone'. The smartphone accessory will transform an unspecified iPhone model into a gaming handheld that easily could compete with leading brands such as Sony's PSP Vita and the Nintendo 3DS.

An iPhone game controller prototype, purportedly manufactured by Logitech, was published by Apple Insider this week, showing an attachable device that will allow iPhone users to engage iPhone games in the same way they do with PSP or the 3DS.

Logitech's accessory actually sports button configuration that is quite with that of Sony's PSP - it features a circular key that acts as the mini joystick for playing movements and a four-key combination that serves as the command purveyor.

The prototype seem to have been designed for use with a future iOS smartphone model, pointing to the possibility that this and similar products are compatible with the iOS 7-powered iPhone 5S and iPhone 6.

Earlier, adjustments made by Apple engineers with the upcoming mobile OS strongly suggested that the upcoming iPad Mini 2 and iPad 5 will take on a new role - that is competing with gaming consoles made by Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

These iOS 7 enhancements are in line with Apple's recently issued guidelines that give the go-signal for third-party firms to produce 'standalone extended gamepad' and 'form-fitting extended gamepad' for use with iOS-run mobile devices.

The core requirement for these products, Apple Insider said, is that they adhere to the basic iPhone and iPad functions such as multi-touch and networking implements, the latter set to facilitate multiple playing.

These products from Logitech and other providers are expected to hit the market shortly after the iPhone 5S rollout, which analysts said will take place September this year, likely coinciding with the official iOS 7 market entrance.

The phablet-size iPhone 6, on the other hand, is slated for a Q1 2014 release date.
