‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 trailer: ‘The great victory I saw in the flames. All of it was a lie’
HBO has released the official trailer for “Game of Thrones” Season 6. The hit TV show is scheduled to premiere April 24. Aussies will be able to watch the new season on Foxtel, April 25, 11am, Monday. Finally the teasing is over and fans have something to cherish, analyse and talk about.
[Spoiler Alert] Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is dead, reassured an unknown voice at the very start of the trailer. Snow’s body is seen lying on the snow and the unknown character shuts his eye. “He’s gone,” he says.
The trailer also confirms that Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) is still blind in Season 6. Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) may save Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner). There is a shot of Sansa running away from something. Theon is seen at the mercy of a man in helmet who also has hounds at his disposal. Then there is a shot of Brienne killing a soldier. Thus, it is very much possible that Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) will send his men and hounds to track down the two when Brienne will be their saviour.
In another heartbreaking moment, “Game of Thrones” fans see their beloved Khaleesi (Emilia Clarke) in chains, apparently being taken prisoner by the Khalasar to Vaes Dothrak. She is seen walking in the shadow of a giant horse statue. It would be interesting to see how Jorah (Iain Glen) and Daario (Michiel Huisman) will save the Queen of Mereen.
Snow’s real parents’ identity may be revealed through a flashback. There is a scene at the end of the trailer where three men engage in battle. Two of them are seen in Stark armour, and the other has the Targaryen sigil on his breastplate. This could be the fight after which Ned (Sean Bean) found his sister Lyanna.
Apparently, Melisandre (Carice van Houten) will keep using her sexual prowess as suggested by a scene where she is seen disrobing (fans have seen her disrobe many times in previous seasons). However, there is bad news. Melisandre seems shaken and out of her confidence in the new trailer. This means she may not be able to resurrect Snow (a popular fan theory).
“The great victory I saw in the flames. All of it was a lie,” she says.
As fans are already aware, Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) will play a significant role in Season 6 after sitting out the entire Season 5. In fact, he is the only hope. May be he will use his mastered psychic powers to bring Snow back. However, the trailer only shows Bran coming face-to-face with king of White Walkers, Night’s King.
Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) is seen picking up Jon Snow’s sword Longclaw. He appears to strike the other men inside a room (soldiers of the Night’s Watch).
“I’ve never been much of a fighter. Apologies for what you’re about to see,” the trailer ends with these words by Davos.
Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) loves violence. There is an exchange of dialogue between devout Sparrow Lancel Lannister and Cersei where he warns her of possible violence if Cersei’s men do not step aside. Cersei chooses violence.
Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is seen back at King’s Landing who reinforces Cersei’s lust for vengeance.
“We’re the only ones who matter. And everything they’ve taken from us we’re going to take back, and more,” Jaime tells Cersei.
The trailer also shows heavily armed guards confronting the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce) in the middle of King’s Landing. However, High Sparrow is confident that he and his men can overthrow an empire.
Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is seen nervously entering a dark chamber where Khaleesi’s two dragons are kept chained.
“Game of Thrones” Season 6 may also see the Boltons fighting the wildlings.
