'Game Of Thrones' Season 6 Update: HBO confirms return of Jon Snow
The internet is abuzz with the latest bombshell dropped by HBO on its hit drama series “Game of Thrones.” After months of mounting speculations, the network has confirmed that Season 6 will welcome the return of beloved character Jon Snow (Kit Harington). At the same time, HBO also confirmed the April 2016 premiere of the much-anticipated 6th season.
With a caption that simply reads “April” accompanied by the hashtags #GOTSeason6 and #GameOfThrones, the official Twitter account of the wildly popular series confirmed that Snow will be back, in some form or another, on Season 6. In the photo that accompanies the tweet, Snow's bloody face is seen with the words “April” and “HBO” written below it.
The poster reinforces earlier theories that Snow’s character will be back next season. The first sign pointing to his return, came earlier this year, when actor Kit Harington was spotted along with other casts members near the site of the "Game Of Thrones" filming studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The sighting came as a surprise after Harington repeatedly said in various interviews that his character is dead. The show’s creators, directors, and other cast members also repeatedly said that they all believe that Snow is well and truly deceased.
In the Season 5 finale, fans of the show were left with a major cliffhanger. After returning to Castle Black following the epic battle at Hardhome, Snow was betrayed by his fellow brothers of the Night’s Watch. He was lured out of his office and repeatedly stabbed by members of the brotherhood who did not agree with his decision to rescue wildlings from the whitewalkers.
The closing scene showed Snow, as he lay surrounded by a pool of snow soaked in his blood. It was unclear if he will survive the attack. Other theories circulating around the web state that he could return as a wight, a zombie-like corpse controlled by whitewalkers.
With Snow’s face featuring prominently in the latest teaser, he will most certainly be seen in the upcoming season. However, no one knows exactly how he will return and in what form. The uncertainty comes from the lack of any available reference for the Season 6 storyline. This is because the next installment of the book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” has not yet been released.
The sixth book, titled “Winds of Winter” will be the basis for Season 6 of "Game of Thrones," just like the previous seasons were based on the earlier books in the series. Author George R.R. Martin has repeatedly stated that he is determined to finish and release the book as soon as possible.
