'Game of Thrones' season 6 updates: Benjen Stark's return could be the key to defeating the Whitewalkers
Original air date on HBO: Sundays at 9 p.m.
Benjen Stark returned in Season 6 Episode 6 of “Game of Thrones” just in time to rescue Bran Stark and Meera from the Whitewalkers. Fans immediately speculated that he may be the answer to defeating the Whitewalkers permanently.
Benjen is the younger brother of Ned Stark. He used to be a First Ranger of the Night’s Watch who disappeared during a mission north of the Wall to search for Whitewalkers, after he brought Jon Snow to Castle Black in Season 1. His horse returned to the Night’s Watch without him and everyone believed that he was killed.
The Daily Beast states that in Episode 6, titled “Blood of My Blood,” Benjen told his story to Bran and Meera. He shared that the Children of the Forest were able to reverse the Whitewalkers’ magic in the same manner that they made them.
After being stabbed by a Whitewalker’s ice sword, he was saved after once again being stabbed but, this time, in the heart and with a shard of dragon glass. It is still uncertain whether he is alive, dead or in-between. He told Bran that the Three-Eyed Raven sent for him to protect the latter. How ever Benjen may have received the news, it was enough to bring him to Bran. This part of the story is yet to be revealed.
According to Bustle, Benjen is probably not a Whitealker. He was apparently lucid when he communicated with Bran and lacked the notable ice blue eyes that the dreaded undead possess. He also seemed to have understood a lot about the Whitewalkers during his long absence.
Benjen also told Bran that the Night King will enter the world of men, but Bran will be ready and waiting for him. Benjen’s knowledge may be the key to defeating the Whitewalkers. Furthermore, he may actually turn out to be Coldhands in the novels and have the information about Jon Snow’s ancestry.
Overall, Benjen Stark has a lot of help to offer to the people who are preparing against winter, as well as the parentage of Jon Snow. He is expected to stay with Bran for a few more episodes until the latter is finally safe. Benjen is also expected to meet Jon Snow again, where the ultimate revelation may happen.
More updates and details on “Game of Thrones” are expected soon. The next episode on Season 6 airs June 5 on HBO.
