'Game of Thrones' season 6 updates: Emilia Clarke says no body double for Danaerys' jawdropping scene; Dothraki the missing piece to her mission
Original air date on HBO: Sundays at 9 p.m.
The latest episode of “Game of Thrones,” which aired Sunday on HBO, ended with a jaw dropping nude scene courtesy of the Mother of Dragons herself. Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, bared it all.
It has been three seasons since Clarke took off her clothes in Season 3. The latest move is part of her wanting to remind her fans that it’s already the sixth season and that there’s no longer any need for a body double. “This is all me, all proud, all strong,” she told Entertainment Weekly in an interview.
In the previous seasons, Clarke had unclothed scenes, too. However, she used body doubles back then.
The actress also talked about the difference in filming Season 6. She say while it is not easy to take off her clothes, with the help of the effects, she did not have to repeat her Season 1 scene where she walked into a cliff naked. The filming of the sixth season’s act was done in a closed studio in Belfast.
“I’m in control of it,” Time Magazine quotes her as saying.
Clarke excitedly elaborated that the scene meant a lot to her. She described it as one of the “spine-chilling” moments that she gets to experience while playing the Mother of Dragons every season. She says, “I just stand up and I go.” She adds that she hears what all her opponents are saying, but what they don’t know is that their deaths are imminent.
Before airing, it was assumed that the Daenerys Targaryen would escape Vaes Dothrak, where she is confined. However, it was predicted that Daario Naharis and Ser Jorah would be her rescuers. Some said that Drogon would fly in and pick her up like what happened in Season 5. However, Dan Weiss and David Benioff, showrunners of the series, had a shocking, character-driven plan in mind.
The episode ended with the Mother of Dragons emerging victorious. Using fire, she took out the Dothraki leaders and gained the support of the Dothraki followers. She now expands her army further, thus making her control more powerful. Clarke says Daenerys realizes that it is the missing piece in her army. Her crew is now complete. With the Dothraki hoard beside her, the Mother of Dragons is indestructible.
“Game of Thrones” airs Sundays on HBO. It also airs on Foxtel in Australia.
