Gaming News: 'Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare' is Always Online, 'Assassin’s Creed 5' Location Rumours, Sony VR Headset in March?
"Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare" release date is very near, with mere hours counting down for its Feb 25 schedule for North America.
But it seems that a new feature has just been announced that may divide its supporters and, again, build them up with the haters.
Remember when the Xbox One received flak for its lack of offline features way back when it was introduced? It seems that this will be the same, at least in the mechanics department. Gearnuke reports that "Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare" is looking at an always online treatment, with no single-player component that gamers can play offline.
Granted that the initial reaction for this kind of a game would be that it's better played in multiplayer, but this is the same as what Microsoft had planned way back, wherein gamers would need to be online and use the Xbox Live despite playing a single-player or multiplayer mode.
*"Twitch Plays Pokemon" has become quite the phenomenon, as more players try to see where the sole hero will end up, with thousands of players trying to take control: Read the full story here.
It will be interesting to see how gamers will receive the always on component. "Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare" is already looking the part of a great game. Hopefully, that will be enough to keep gamers interested despite the online feature.
'Assassin's Creed 5' Not in Japan But in Russia This Time?
Way back in January, there was a rumour of "Assassin's Creed 5" possibly taking place in Japan, as the creative director for "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag" Jean Guesdon's words were taken quite literally.
As Now Gamer earlier reported, there were hints from Mr Guesdon that had the rumour mill going early on. "Feudal Japan remains--like numerous other time periods and locations--a possible future setting for the franchise," he said in an earlier statement.
Of course, this has set some fans into discussion, but it seems that the idea has now just been debunked.
*Sony has quite the list of game releases for the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita: Check out the list here.
"When we're building a franchise, we're thinking of a whole universe and how we're developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV," said Jade Raymond, managing director at Ubisoft Toronto, in a statement quoted by Game Trailers. "If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it's never going to be quite as genius," Ms Raymond added.
The other rumour is that it may be set in Russia, based on coordinates that have been leaked. Only SP has spotted that the translated version of the tweet from AC Initiates point to a location near Moscow, Russia.
More hints point to the new setting, with Ms Raymond stating that the next game will be based on her favourite historical era. So far, this can be anyone's guess on where the new setting is, but more concrete details may appear at the SXSW, where Raymond is guesting for the talk on games' impact on entertainment.
Sony VR Headset for the PS4 Coming in March?
Oculus Rift is fast making a trend of VR headset reality, but it seems that Sony is also looking into the technology---and fast.
*Again, more clues point to "Far Cry 4" happening soon: Read the details here.
The latest on this matter comes from the fact that Sony may even reveal its VR headset for the PS4 as early as March this year. In a report from GameRant, the lack of concrete updates and reveals from Sony may prove the fact that it is trying to polish its VR headset before showing it off to the public.
And perhaps this means that the Sony VR headset for the PS4 may be close to its final stages, as new rumours of a GDC showcase has been spotted. In particular, the GDC session on March 19, titled "Creating Unique Interactive Experiences with the PlayStation 4" is pegged to be where the PS4 VR headset may show up.
As if that is not yet clue enough, the description for the sessions talks of exploring "technical capabilities and new features of the PlayStation 4's new input devices." This can encompass the PS4 camera, the PlayStation Move and hopefully, the PS4 VR headset.
