With the 206 appearances of the Fox hit TV series Glee in Billboard's Hot 100 since the show aired in 2009, the group had dethroned Rock n' Roll King Elvis Presley from the top spot.
The King held the no 1 spot for a long time with his 108 Hot 100 hits, until Glee came along. With the Saturday death of Glee star Corey Monteith, who played Finn Hudson, expect more fan interest in Glee songs and higher album sales as well as more Hot 100 hits.
With the ascent of Glee to the throne, Elvis is down to the third place, while on second spot is rapper Lil Wane with 119 appearances. However, Elvis is still reigns supreme when it comes to top 40 hits with 80, while Lil Wayne has 63 and Glee 51.
News of Cory's death became global trending in social media, where Glee co-stars of the 31-year-old Canadian actor posted their sentiment over his demise.
20th Century Fox Television and FOX Broadcasting Company, producers of Glee, tweeted, "We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and even more exceptional person ... He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."
A similar message was made by international singer Charice Pempengco, who appeared briefly in Season 2 of Glee as Filipina exchange student Sunshine Corazon.
Charice said Cory was very calm and a good boy. "For Lea Michele, I just want to say sorry. I now she's a very nice person and I know it's very hard for her right now. The only thing I can do for her and his family is to pray," Charice told ABS-CBN.
