Gmail and Google Plus Upgrades: Simple but Significant
At this week's Google I/O conference, Google introduced low-key but significant upgrades in its Gmail and Google Plus platforms. The goal is to provide users with a more uniform and consistent approach. These will help build efficiency and improve overall performance.
Gmail Improvements
Google announced the I/O that Gmail will start featuring "quick action" buttons. These quick action buttons appear next to particular messages allowing users to respond immediately. For example, the email is a party invitation - the quick action button allows users to reply instantly with "yes," "no," or "maybe."
These new functions are set to roll out in the next few weeks. Their primary goal is to allow users to manage their emails better and efficiently. Earlier this month, the company also announced rolling out a similar feature. This feature will let Gmail users make their own Google Calendar entries within the body of their mail. Gmail will detect the dates and times to create the schedule.
As part of enhancing the Gmail experience, Google also announced at the I/O conference that the company is working on combining storage functions for Gmail and Google drive. Apps customers can expect a single storage bucket by as much as 30G bytes. Previously, Gmail offered 5G bytes for Gmail and Google Drive for 25G bytes separately.
Revamped Google Plus
There is no doubt Google Plus did not take off as it was hoped to do. Google is now making "amends" for it pushing new features and functions for the Google Plus social network. While it is not yet part of the Google Apps lineup, Google has been adding features to this network giving people the chance to use it for work. The company is planning on adding Google Plus in the Apps suite very soon.
One key feature analysts point out as Google Plus' potential selling point is the automated "personal assistance" function. This will allow people to work more effectively, efficiently and productively. It can assist employees in prioritizing things and accomplishing everything.
