‘The Good Wife’ Season 7 Update: Matt Goode’s Finn Polmar Leaves Alicia Florrick, Actor Exits Series (Spoilers)
“The Good Wife” Season 7 is not likely to include a significant story arc on Matthew Goode’s Finn Polmar. The actor is leaving the series after a year of being a series regular.
Spoiler alert: This update contains “The Good Wife” Season 6 spoilers. Read on at your own risk if you’re not caught up until the finale.
TVLine’s Michael Ausiello revealed Matthew Goode is leaving “The Good Wife” as a series regular. The actor, however, may show up in one or more episodes as a recurring guest. Goode joined the series toward the end of Season 5, after Josh Charles’ Will Gardner died.
Goode’s exit happens soon after Archie Panjabi filmed her last scene ever on the CBS series. Incidentally, Ausiello has a detailed description of how Panjabi and Margulies filmed their scenes separately for Kalinda’s last dialogue with Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies).
In the finale of “The Good Wife” Season 6, Alicia and Finn get on their first case as partners. They were set to build a new firm together. However, Finn backs out in the end. He makes the revelation a couple of scenes after telling Alicia that he was fixing his marriage.
Viewers know that Alicia has some intense sexual thoughts about Finn. This is elaborately revealed in an earlier episode. When Finn tells her he was working out his marriage, she reacts as if everything is okay. However, Alicia couldn’t hide her disappointment when Finn announces they couldn’t be partners.
For his part, Matt Czuchry earlier hinted at the possibility of Alicia and Cary competing against each other again in “The Good Wife” Season 7. Michael J. Fox is reportedly going to have more screen time as Louis Canning, possibly Alicia’s new partner in a new firm.
It remains to be seen whether Goode’s exit would mean the return of Steven Pasquale’s Johnny Elfman, Alicia’s former campaign manager. Many fans believe Johnny interrupted the progress of Alicia and Finn’s romance, and they were relieved when Johnny left Cook County for another job.
“It is the best written network drama on television. It was fun to be around that,” Pasquale told Windy City Times in an interview. He explained it was natural for him to join “The Good Wife” at one point because it is a series shot in his city (New York), and it celebrates theatre actors.
CBS ordered the renewal of “The Good Wife” for a seventh season on May 11. The series is expected to premiere by the final quarter of the year.
