Google Eyes Spoons as the Next Best Thing but May Have to Do More Than That
Google has been venturing into a variety of initiatives that some of its releases come as a surprise. In a recent exploration, the company unveils a "smart spoon" that steadies tremors providing aid to people with Parkinson's diseases and other similar cases.
Google appears to have a lot at its disposal as it pours in money, technology and brain power to a "humble spoon" according to The Daily Mail. Nonetheless, the spoons are more than just the usual utensil. Google has invested hundreds of algorithms to allow people experiencing tremors to eat with ease. The technology can recognize a trembling hand and adjusts to give balance. According to the clinical tests, the Liftware spoons can reduce spoon shaking by as much as 76 percent.
Google spokesperson Katelin Jabbari shared: "We want to help people in their daily lives today and hopefully increase understanding of disease in the long run."
Throughout the years, there have been numerous efforts in developing devices to aid people with tremors. These include weighted utensils, rocker knives and pen grips. However, it is the first time that technology has been used in such a way. Google has started a new approach to the problem.
Dr. Jill Ostrem, UC San Francisco Medical Center neurologist Dr. Jill Ostrem, said: "It's totally novel."
However, Google may have to do more than spoons as it succumbs to the petrification of bureaucracy according to The New Yorker In's Nicholas Lemann. According to Forbes, Google can be considered as the 21st Century version of General Motors. It can celebrate the impressive success it has achieved but it has only been communicating heaving of snake-oil salesmanship. Google's management remains the same just dressed up flashily. It has to come up with new ways to surprise the markets and refuse to succumb to what previous established companies went for. It has to shake up management.
